Context
At micro level many people (especially women and girls) are not
able to access treatment and quality health care due to a lack of
financial resources and absence of quality medical services.
Information on reproductive health issues is lacking due to denial
of sexuality of young people, lack of attention in schools for
health related issues, stigma and cultural hindrances to openly
talk about sexuality and change in traditional structures. At meso
level the emergence and re-emergence of diseases such as HIV/AIDS,
TB and drug-resistant malaria are contributing to the over-load of
the country's health sector; in addition, provision of medical
services, voluntary counseling and testing in rural areas is below
standards. At macro level local and regional government health
structures have a lack of sufficient financial resources.
Aim of the programme
In order to address the health problems and increase the access
to quality health care for vulnerable groups in rural areas, the
ICCO Alliance partners in Kenya are combining efforts, in the next
coming years to strengthen civil society by increasing
participation of beneficiaries in own programs and in holding
government accountable for delivering services.
