Context
On micro level problems are caused by lack of health awareness
and education (incl. unsafe cultural practices and lack of
facilities) within the target group and their community
leaders.
On meso level these problems are caused by weak (local) government
health capacity and structure and limited resources. This problem
is closely linked to the challenges on macro level.
The conflict situation has been dragging on for decades, leading
to complete devastation of the country, including the
infrastructure (especially the Southern part) and a brain drain of
qualified health (training) personnel, low living standard of the
Sudanese people and loss of community knowledge on health, hygiene,
nutrition, etc.
Aim of the programme
To tackle the above described problems, the program on Health
and HIV/AIDS addresses the lack of Human Resources for Health, lack
of well functioning health structures and lack of financial
resources for health as well as lack of knowledge/awareness,
causing lack of quality health services in Southern Sudan in the
area of community health care, vaccination, HIV/AIDS prevention and
treatment, prevention and treatment of disabilities, birth
attendance, supply of medication and reproductive health
services.
As can be seen from the figures in the baseline there is still a
long way to go before realizing the objectives of the program.
There is still a strong focus on DPA, because Sudan is still
recovering from many years of civil wars. It is expected that in
the coming years the other strategies will get more focus. This
first year the role of the Share Alliance will become clearer.
