Conferentie mensenhandel Roemenië 18 oktober 2019

CPOE’s (Christian Platform for Organizations working in Eastern Europe) Anti-Human Trafficking workgroup is kindly inviting you to participate on October 18, 2019 in the “Human Trafficking – a relevant and common problem of today’s Romania” conference/consultation, that will take place in Oradea, at the Emmanuel Christian University.

Trafficking of Human Beings (THB) or Human Trafficking (HT) is a well-known problem in many countries worldwide, is a complex phenomenon, with lots of implications and ramifications. Sadly in the European Union Romania is listed at the first place both as source country and transit country, with growing internal trafficking and large scale THB networks. Efforts are made by different actors to stop THB, but it is far from enough!

“Among the EU countries, 2015 Eurostat Report on Trafficking in Human Beings states that Romania offers the largest number of victims and the most developed and sophisticated THB networks at the European level. Romania is both a source, a transit and a destination country, the phenomenon of internal trafficking being a growing phenomenon with over a third of identified victims trafficked internally during 2011-2014.”1

There are many and different stakeholders involved in Anti-Trafficking work, and serious efforts are made to reduce THB. At the same time – according to several researches and studies – cooperation regarding this problem is a serious challenge and the general understanding is that better collaboration and coordination of efforts would lead to bigger impact in this regard.

This conference/consultation intends to be a first step in creating a platform for and facilitating collaboration and coordination among organizations in reaching better impact in eradicating THB. This need for increased collaboration not only refers to actors involved in rehabilitation of victims or prosecution of traffickers but for organizations addressing root causes, prevention and protection as well.

Participants: In this regard, this conference is meant for organizations and institutions working on the root causes of THB (poverty, school abandonment, dysfunctional families, supporting and developing vulnerable and disadvantaged communities and people, etc.). Organizations specialized in THB or others interested to contribute to the anti- trafficking efforts are welcome to join.

There will be specialists who will lead us through the day representing organizations working in different areas in the anti-trafficking field. We believe that a better understanding of THB and taking it into account in our work, will also lead to better impact of non-specialized aid & development organization and institutions.
